Welcome to the MORPh Primary Care Training Network Diabetes Academy.

This Academy has been created to support you to develop into Advanced Pharmacist Practitioners in diabetes.

During the programme you will have access to diabetes experts and mentors to guide you through the knowledge base and competencies specific to this therapy area. You will have the opportunity to embed your learning into practice using a case based approach – many of these coming from your own contact with diabetes patients. This programme will help you to gain confidence in treating patients using a safe and supportive environment, learning from others and being assured of back up and support as you take these steps towards developing as expert diabetes practitioner.

Our next academy is due to take place in February 2024 and will run over 6 months. Applications are now open – apply for your place by clicking the button above!

The programme is open to all pharmacists working in primary care who regularly manage patients with diabetes through their general practice work.

Places will be limited to create a more tailored learning environment for successful candidates. If possible, it is expected that applicants adhere to the following:

  • You will apply to be part of the academy – a short application form is provided above
  • You will have access to a suitable patient base where you can undertake medication review, counselling and have input to therapeutic and patient centred decisions.
  • You will be expected to attend all scheduled learning events, complete any work based assignments including case studies and reflections as required
  • Actively discuss and reflect on case studies with peers and mentors in your mentorship groups where this is called for within the course

For those who complete the course, there may be opportunities to support and act as mentors for further cohorts of learners.

The structure will be based on 8 modules each involving a taught webinar session, a case study session and support in a small group of 5 or 6 others from an allocated mentor who will help guide your own activities. Key dates are included in a schedule on the tab below.

A certificate will be issued upon completion of the Diabetes Academy.
