The Accelerated Diabetes Academy Module 1 webinar is prioritised, and FREE, for Primary Care, PCN, ICB and GP Practice Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Trainees.Â
This study day will start at 18:30 with the Welcome and Introductions. The webinar will begin shortly after. Our expert speakers will be discussing the following topics:
Introduction to Diabetes:
- Understanding the disease process
- Aetiology, pathophysiology- ‘The Ominous Octet’
- Early Action in Diabetes
- Diagnostic criteria and symptoms
- Diabetic complications and HbA1c
- Vascular protection in diabetes’ Steno2 trials
- Types of diabetes
- Pre diabetes
- HbA1c targets and individualization
- Different types of presentation of diabetes in clinical practice, ‘’getting the diagnosis right’’
- Clinical inertia
- Legacy effect in diabetes
Learning Outcomes
- Describe the burden of diabetes and its impact on resources and on population health
- Understanding the disease process and its short and long term impact on patients
- Diagnose different types of diabetes based on symptoms history taking and blood results
- Understand where the clinical pharmacist can add value and can support stratification and improve management of diabetes patients
- Work in partnership with the patient to identify strategies to optimize lifestyle issues e.g. to minimise weight gain and to set activity targets
