MORPh Associate Blog – Sally Lau
Sally Lau has over 43 years of experience working in different sectors of pharmacy practice including hospital, community, government, academia and primary care. During this time she has developed a broad range of clinical, practical and educational skills. After 23 years of working in the Welsh Centre for Pharmacy Professional Education she took on the role as an NCN pharmacist providing patient-centred care in GP surgeries in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area. She had qualified as an independent prescriber with a specific interest in pain management.
Throughout her career Sally has demonstrated a sustained commitment to the pharmacy profession and the education of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social care staff and other healthcare professionals. With a strong record of pursuing high standards of practice and motivating others to follow and adopt the same ethos.
Working as a Specialist Pharmacy Advisor since 2014 assisting the Care Quality Commission’s inspections to provide advice on medicines management, Sally follows the CQC best practice care pathways to ensure people receive care and treatment in line with current best practice guidance. She believes that care professionals must receive appropriate and current professional development in order to provide safe and effective care. She advocates and applies current evidence-based knowledge in implementing medicines optimisation.
As a MORPh Associate, she feels privileged to meet with enthusiastic clinical pharmacists who are continuously learning. She has a keen interest in facilitating learning and continuing professional development for pharmacy professionals. Furthermore, she is a proud member of the Faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and is passionate to support other pharmacists to develop and advance their practice.
