Pharmacist CPD: Complete your Planned Learning with Free Webinars
Pharmacist continuing professional development (CPD) is an important aspect of the work of a pharmacist. In order to achieve annual revalidation via the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), all pharmacists must complete four CPD records, one record of peer discussion and one record of a reflective account. Of the CPD records, at least two must be planned learning. Here at MORPh, we offer free webinar training from leading experts on a wide variety of topics. Check out our available webinar courses and read on to find out more about how we can help with your pharmacist CPD.
Pharmacist CPD and GPhC revalidation
Each year, pharmacists need to complete the revalidation process to keep their professional qualifications up to date. Full details can be found in the GPhC Revalidation framework. The requirement to complete four CPD records includes the specification that two of those must be planned learning.
Planned learning should be on a topic that is relevant to your work and will benefit people using your service. Learning can be carried out at any point during the year and you should keep a record of it that can be submitted to the GPhC for revalidation.
How to make and submit CPD records
The GPhC has its own online portal where you can record ongoing professional development. However, it is also completely acceptable to record it elsewhere. If you sign up for a MORPh webinar, you will receive a certificate of completion. You also create an account on our website, where all the training you book onto and complete will appear. When it comes to renewing your registration and submitting evidence, you can simply refer to your MORPh training records.
Once submitted, GPhC will check you have the correct number and type of records. A certain number are selected for review either at random or in a targeted way. If so, you will receive personalised feedback that you can use for your next submission. If not, you will receive summary feedback.
Should you be unable to submit the required records at or before the point of renewal, you can let the GPhC know, along with evidence of the reasons why you cannot do so. They will review that evidence and let you know whether you will be granted an extension for submission or they may reduce the requirement for the number of records you need to submit. Alternatively, you may still be asked to submit by the deadline. This is a decision you can appeal against.
A note on Covid: Revalidation requirements until February 2022
Due to the Covid pandemic, the GPhC has changed the revalidation requirements for the time being. Any pharmacists whose registration renewal deadline falls before 28th February 2022 will not need to complete the full revalidation requirements. Instead, you can just submit a single reflective account. The GPhC has said that these altered requirements will be in place until at least 28th February 2022.
Pharmacy professionals will be given at least three months’ notice before full revalidation will be required again. This will allow pharmacists to prepare for submission. However, it is always advisable to keep your skills and knowledge updated as you go along. This allows you to continually reflect on your learning and its benefit to service providers.
MORPh webinars as pharmacist CPD planned learning
As you reflect on your learning during the course of the year, you will identify key areas that you want to work on. This may be due to a gap in your knowledge, or a therapy area that you may like to specialise in. Throughout the year, we offer a wide range of webinars. Each one is presented by a subject-expert. Bookmark our training zone and you’ll be able to quickly and easily book your place whenever you’re ready. Our Education Platform offers on-demand learning.
